Mr. Fannon directs government and legislative affairs for Panasonic and is based in its Washington, D.C. offices. His responsibilities also include Panasonic's environmental, product safety and regulatory compliance activities. In addition, he helps coordinate the company's technology development and evaluation activities associated with new products and services. Mr. Fannon represents Panasonic in a variety of industry, trade, and advisory organizations. He chairs the Government Affairs Council of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and serves on the CEAPAC Committee.
Before joining Panasonic in 1997, Mr. Fannon was active in digital television development. He was President of the Advanced Television Test Center (ATTC), the official laboratory for testing new TV broadcast systems submitted to the Advisory Committee on Advanced Television Service (ACATS) of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). He also chaired the HDTV Coalition of industry, trade, and consumer organizations to promote FCC and industry adoption of the ATSC Digital Television standards. In 2005, he received CEA’s Academy of Digital Television Pioneers Award for Best Industry DTV Leadership.
Earlier, Mr. Fannon worked in public television. He was President, National Association of Public Television Stations (NAPTS), which he helped establish in 1980, as the research, planning, and government affairs organization for public TV. Before that he was Director of Planning for the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), working on development of new program services, network-station organization, and fundraising.
Mr. Fannon has also held posts in the Federal government, in the Office of Management & Budget (OMB) and in the General Services Administration (GSA).
He earned Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in International Relations from The Johns Hopkins University and its School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He is a member of several professional associations, a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), and active in university library, international student exchange, and theater organizations.Registering for the Summit is fast and easy.
